Abstract

The concept of crop insurance in India has been present for over a century, but it took 40 years to establish practical and effective schemes. Since then, we have made significant advancements in conceptualising, developing, and implementing crop insurance systems in India. Nevertheless, we persist in confronting several concerns and challenges. To devise solutions to these problems, it is beneficial to study and assess the schemes that have been or are currently in effect. This research article presents a comprehensive analysis of our experiences with crop insurance schemes, focusing on both qualitative and quantitative aspects from a historical perspective.
