Abstract

Due to the tectonic compression and superposition of the Micangshan and Dabashan thrust tectonic zones, the Upper Triassic Xujiahe Formation in the Malubei tectonic zone develops faults, folds, and a large-scale fracture network, and presents a significant deformation of geologic structure, which lead to a large variation in gas testing results after drillingand pose limitations to conventional gas testing techniques. By analyzing the reservoir characteristics, the applicability of gas testing techniques and downhole valves was reviewed. The downhole pipe string structure and techniques / processes were optimized by replacing the OMNI valve with the E valve which has a simpler structure and is easier to operate as the displacement valve. The pressure- and temperature-resistant perforating guns and bullets were optimized to enable a deep penetration. Practical decision templates for determining the necessity of post-squeezing fracturing were developed, and principles for well control and leakage plugging were established. Thus, a key gas testing technique for reservoirs with large-scale fracture network in the Malubei tectonic zone is figured out. This technique has been applied in wells M01, M02, and M03, where industrial gas flows were successfully obtained from five geological layers, recording a significant breakthrough in the exploration of tight sandstone gas reservoirs in the Xujiahe Formation. © 2023 Well Testing.
