Abstract

Occupational therapy (OT) constitutes a significant component of the educational framework for students with special needs, particularly in relation to academic and functional development. This study investigates the role of OT in facilitating students' performance of daily school activities and addressing skills pertaining to cognitive, motor, and sensory processing that directly influence learning. Through an examination of the collaborative nature of OT in individualised education programmes (IEPs) and its function in functional skill development, this paper elucidates how OT interventions can bridge traditional academic goals with the specific requirements of special education students. This research presents practical strategies for implementing OT in educational settings and discusses the challenges encountered, such as limited resources and resistance to change, along with potential solutions. The future of OT in education, focusing on creating environments conducive to the success of all children, is addressed through policy advocacy, professional development, and inclusive practices.
