Using these imaginative approaches, trauma can be expressed in ways that have a profound emotional and cultural impact. Visual narratives serve as memorials for previous tragedies and a means of bringing awareness to the suffering of others; by studying these practices, we can gain insight into trauma, memory, and visual culture. Visual representation often acts as a kind of resistance and testimony, giving a louder voice to the marginalized and shattering the social taboo around trauma.
